William Wells Brown and the Jefferson and Hemings Scandal William Wells Brown wrote Clotel or The Presidents Daughter, a (fiction) novel based on the rumors surrounding doubting doubting Thomas Jeffersons mapping with wisecrack Hemings, his slave.
